KBOA Expects to Have FM in Month

Will Carry Cardinal Games Day and Night During 1948 Season

Station KBOA announced this week that it will broadcast the play-by-play account of the St. Louis Cardinal baseball games during the coming season under an arrangement similar to that of last year, when the Griesedieck Bros. Brewery Company arranged the broadcasts which were carried over a network of stations in Missouri, Illinois, Arkansas, Tennessee and Kentucky.

This year, however, KBOA will broadcast the night games over FM radio, and every effort is being made to have the new FM broadcasts in operation by the opening of the season on April 20. Paul C. Jones, manager of KBOA, said Monday that most of the equipment for the FM broadcasts was on hand and that the erectors who will install the FM antenna on top of the present AM tower, are expected to be in Kennett next week to begin this installation.

Present plans call for broadcasting all of the games on FM, and it is also possible that a part of all the day games will also be broadcast over (KBOA-AM). Due to the (unreadable) many of the games (unreadable) are noon, especially (difficult) are double headers (played) in the east, officials of KBOA have announced that (it may) be impossible this year to start all of the early games over AM, and for this reason plan to inaugurate the new FM service.

Since it will require either an FM radio receiver, or an FM tuner attached to present AM radios to receive the broadcasts over FM, and since the games will be broadcast only over FM at night, it is believed that most fans will either secure a new FM set or will have (unreadable).
