Officials Expect to Have FM In Operation by Tuesday
Work of installing the FM antenna on the 285-ft. tower of Radio Station KBOA was begun Thursday, and will be rushed to completion, possibly by this weekend, according to officials of the station.
For the past several weeks, KBOA has had all of the equipment on hand to begin FM broadcasts, which will permit the station to serve this immediate area with night broadcasts over FM only. The delay has been occasioned by the fact that the construction crew being furnished by the Tower Construction Co. of Sioux City, Iowa, was detained in Port Arthur, Texas. The crew arrived Wednesday night and was on the job early Thursday morning.
Louis Reed, in charge of the construction crew, said Thursday that if the good weather continues he should have the FM antenna installed by Sunday, and it is possible that tests of the FM transmitter can be made during the day Sunday and Monday, and the new FM station be in operation in time for the first night baseball game on Tuesday night of next week.
In making the installation of the FM antenna, the top 20-ft. section of the AM tower had to be removed Thursday morning for some machine work which is being done by the Kennett Engine and Boiler Works, preparatory to mounting a 50-ft mast within this section, 42 feet of which will project above the top.
